It's Time to Step Out of Your Comfort Zone; Embrace the Unknown

Here is a quote worth living by:  “Life begins when you step out of your comfort zone”.

The thought of that can be scary and trust me sis, I get it, so let me share my story with you.  I recently completed my Masters degree. That’s right, your girl is “mastered” and the truth is, it took a huge leap of faith to get to this point. We look on social media and we only see people sharing the results but we’re hardly ever present for the process.

Prior to making the decision to go back to school, I was secretly terrified at the thought of doing so. I had so many negative thoughts racing through my mind, “What if I am not smart enough for graduate school?” “What will I study?” Of course I fed myself excuses like, “I can't possibly manage graduate courses AND a full time job” and “I won't be able to have a social life.”  

Apart from school, I had also remained in a dominant long term relationship solely because I was comfortable and of course doubted the potential of finding someone better. Now, I have earned my Masters degree and I am doing things I love as I patiently wait for my time to enter into a new partnership.

From my story and many others like it, I think the moral is we need to stop limiting ourselves.

You have so much to offer the world with your talents and skills and it is important to always remember that. Fear can be crippling and it can hold us back from reaching our true potential. We don’t have to do any research to prove that we miss 100% of the shots we don’t take; girl, that’s just a fact.

Remember, just like with anything else it is not always best to go cold turkey so take your time, be patient with yourself and just keep going! Challenge yourself every day to try something new and you will be surprised at how much growth will come from it.

Here are some tips to get you to start making moves.

  1. Set small challenges for yourself.
    Moving out of your comfort zone does not require a major leap. Just one change can make a significant difference.

  2. Small wins matter, big wins matter, all wins matter.  
    Appreciate your accomplishments! Go head and treat yourself to something nice!

  3. Get excited at the thought of positive outcomes.  
    Changing your mindset has a huge impact on what you can achieve.

  4. Daily affirmations.
    Speak positivity into your life!

  5. Build a support system.
    Having a squad is instrumental to your success. They can keep you accountable and motivated.  Don’t be afraid to seek professional help if needed as well.

  6.  Just go for it and embrace the unknown!

I know it’s easier said than done but in case you need to hear it ONE MORE TIME I will say this: stop thinking about the negative and just start thinking about the positive that will come from you taking a chance and stepping outside of your comfort zone.
